B Corp Certification
GTP is B Corp Certified since 2022
What does this mean?
This is a certification given to companies that meet required standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
Being a B Corp business means we’re more committed than ever to doing things the right way. It’s all about making a positive impact for everyone and the whole environment rather than solely focusing on profits. It’s not just a badge, but a promise to use our cycle tours as a force for good in the world.
Waste and Recycling
The goal is Zero Waste. We believe in the power of bike travel to make a positive impact. Zero waste is an ambitious goal, but by minimizing our footprint on every ride, we’re doing our part to help protect the planet. From reducing waste to cutting down on carbon emissions, every little action counts.
Plastics
- Reducing the use of plastics and, where unavoidable, recycling or disposing of them responsibly. Guides and drivers ensure plastic, paper, and glass waste are separated and properly disposed of.
- Supplying bidons made from 100% sugar cane waste, a renewable resource that helps reduce greenhouse gases. The supplier donates clean drinking water to developing countries through Made Blue.
- Requesting suppliers to replace plastic wrapping with recyclable or sustainable materials, e.g., Santini Clothing is supplied in 100% recycled LDPE bags that can be reused.
- Promoting The Ocean Cleanup through newsletters and social media, with plans to fundraise via a Distance Challenge in 2025.
Water
- Using water pistols for cleaning bikes and vehicles at GTP HQ to reduce water wastage.
- On tours, guides use spray-on bike cleaners that do not require water or water pistols when needed.
- Providing large reusable water containers in tour vans to avoid purchasing bottled water.
Energy Consumption and Carbon Emissions
- Using carbon offsets for staff air travel and encouraging train travel when feasible.
- Choosing local hotels that aim to reduce environmental impact.
- Promoting rail connections for tour arrivals and departures, supported by organizations like Simple Train.
- Using electric vehicles where possible for supply deliveries.
- Powering GTP HQ with clean electricity, LED lighting, and sustainably sourced wood pellets, with ongoing improvements.
Society and Communities
GTP believes in a fair and equitable world where everyone has access to basic necessities and opportunities to improve their quality of life and fulfill their own goals. Equality means everyone deserves to be treated equitably, no matter their identity or cultural norms.
Women and Girls
- Employing equal numbers of men and women as office staff, tour guides, and drivers.
- Ensuring equal opportunity and fair remuneration for all staff.
- Actively promoting women in social media and newsletters.
- Preferring diverse social influencers.
- Encouraging and supporting female guests who join our “Ride Every Kilometre” tours.
- Sponsoring and promoting young women in racing through social media.
Local Communities
- Reserving smaller, localized hotels instead of large international chains.
- Highlighting local restaurants and cafes that use local produce on our tours.
- Visiting and promoting local enterprises during leisure tours.
- Hiring guides and drivers from the region to contribute to the local economy and reduce travel-related costs.
