The Grand Depart of the 110th edition of the World's premier cycle race in France, starts in Pays Basque. Populated by fiercely patriotic euskaldunak or Basques who are united by a unique language, a shared culture and recognised genetic heritage. Pays Basque or Basque Country is found on the Atlantic coast straddling both Spain and France and The capital is Vitoria-Gasteiz however, Pays Basque is also well known for Bilbao, Guernica, and Donostia-San Sebastian.

And the cycling? Grand Tours Project is offering an extended week that includes fast and furious hilly and flat terrain in Pays Basque. By Stage 3, the race is back in France, with a flat Stage 4 followed by an unusual first week in the Pyrenees - 2 mountain stages …think Col de Soudet, Col d’Aspin and Col du Tourmalet.

Then farewell to the Pyrenees and into the wine region of Bordeaux, the flat land of Limoges and our final day of riding in the Massif Central to the summit of Puy-de-Dôme.
