The Gran Salida of the Grand Tour of Spain. The start of the final Grand Tour of Europe and what a place to start - Lisbon and Portugal. The last time Lisbon was the Gran Salida was 1997 AND it was the first time any of the Grand Tours had started outside of their home countries. The Stage 1 individual time trial from Lisbon to Oeiras; Stage 2 starts from the Portuguese Riviera resort town of Cascais and finishes at the mediaeval town of Ourém and the Fatima Religious site; and the final Stage 3 is possibly a mountain stage, starting in Lousã and crossing the Serra da Lousã to Castelo Branco, once owned by the Templar Knights.

Our Gran Salida Experience tour offers you access to the Official Presentation of the Teams on arrival day; to ride to best parts of the routes on all 3 stages; to explore the historic towns, visit places of natural beauty but importantly to experience Portugal in the midst of the first 3 stages of Spain’s 79th Grand Tour.

In summary, in six days: riding portions of the race route before the pros; entry into the Teams Presentation Ceremony; immersion in the Portuguese-Spanish cycle culture, riding along the Atlantic coast and seaside resorts; exploring Lisbon, plus of course, the gastronomic delights of Portugal.

With the Grand Tour of Spain starting in Lisbon and finishing in Madrid - two amazing places worth visiting - why not join us for an unforgettable experience at both the Gran Salida and then for the final stage at the Grand Finale?

  • DAY 4 - SUNDAY 18 AUGUST

    STAGE 2 - CASCAIS DEPART & RIDE

    TBC km | TBC m

After a leisurely breakfast, we will transfer to Cascais. Stage 2 starts here but it is also an opportunity to visit the Boca do Inferno, a scenic oceanfront cliff featuring a natural archway created by pounding waves before diving into the increasingly exciting atmosphere of the Stage 2 Depart. You can wander past the team buses, chat to the support teams, and possibly meet some of the pro riders. The build-up to the race start is exhilarating and not to be missed. Once the racers have departed, you will either ride north along the race route or be transferred to a start along the route (race route TBC). Tonight a new hotel near the Serra da Lousã.

  • DAY 5 - MONDAY 19 AUGUST

STAGE 3 - Serra da Lousã

    70 km | 1,770 m

The map route has not been released but the Stage 3 Depart is in Lousã and the Arrive is in Castelo Branco - in between is Serra da Lousã so we are making an educated guess that the route will pass over the mountains. Straight after breakfast you will ride the race route over the Serra da Lousã and stop for lunch on the race route and to watch the leaders and peloton ride past along with the red coloured fans. The team will transfer you to your hotel.
