  • Length

  • Climb

16 May 2022 - 23 May 2022

Week Two of the Giro d’Italia Ride Every Kilometre Challenge offers something of everything. Some flat and fast stages, quiet country roads, coastal routes along the Ligurian Sea, rolling hills and of course big climbs to and over mountain passes.

If you are looking for a challenge, specifically a Ride Every Kilometre tour, then this week could be the week to dip your toe in the water and test yourself. It won’t be easy but when is a challenge easy? There is a good variety of different routes and terrain as opposed to mainly mountains.

The race route takes you through the AOC regions of northern Italy, so you will be able to enjoy the local produce and wines, join the locals in cheering on the pros and also get the opportunity to cross the finish line, mount the winner's podium and mingle in the VIP hospitality zone. And our hotels are the best we can find as close to the start of each day as is possible.

So maybe this week is for you?

Check out this story from one of our 2018 guests to be convinced!

If the 'Challenge' tour of 6 stages sounds a bit much, or if you haven't the time for a full week off, then you may wish to join us in Sicily for 3 stages (Stages 4, 5 & 6)!

We are also offering a more relaxed option for week 2 involving 60-100km of riding each day - our Giro 'Experience' tours.

Welcome to Week 2 of Giro d’Italia 2022.

We will collect you from Rome airport at a designated time and then transfer you to our hotel in Pescara. It's a long transfer but it eliminates a very early transfer to the start line tomorrow. Once there we’ll get the bikes assembled, fitted and take a short ride for final adjustments. Back at the hotel we’ll discuss with you the plans for the week and then enjoy a lovely Italian dinner.

  • Day 2 - Tuesday 17 May

    Stage 10 Pescara - Jesi

    194km | 1,730m

A nice start to Ride Every Kilometre - first 100 kilometres is flat, and hugging the Adriatic Coast past the lidos, beachside towns and natural reserves to Civitanova Marche. The Giro peloton will be averaging about 45 km per hour on this flat section - we are aiming for an average of 30 km per hour, so we need to depart early in order to reach the finish before they close the route for the caravan and race. At Civitanova Marche the route turns west and into the hills, ending at ancient Jesi also known as Iesi.

On completion, we’ll transfer to our hotel near Santarcangelo di Romagna.

  • Day 3 - Wednesday 18 May

Stage 11 Santarcangelo di Romagna - Reggio Emilia

    201km | 480m

Double yesterday’s 100km flat section, because that is what you must complete today! It will be flat and fast. Following the ancient Roman road, via Emilia to Bologna and then detouring around Modena, and the towns affected by the 2012 earthquake before finishing in Reggio Emilia. We can stay to watch the finish which is expected to be a tight bunch crossing the line.

After that we'll transfer to our hotel in Parma.

  • Day 4 - Thursday 19 MAy

    Stage 12 Parma - Genova

    186km | 2,840m

Today we leave the flat lands of Parma and gently climb around 100 kilometres, to the high point of today's race, Passo del Bocco, 957 metres. Then we are in Liguria and descending to the Ligurian Sea, and following the winding routes along the coast to Sori. Then a steep climb to Monte Becco before descending to the finish in Genova.

We will transfer to our hotel near Sanremo.

  • Day 5 - Friday 20 May

    Stage 13 Sanremo - Cuneo

    157km | 1,450m

Today is the day to ride strong and aim to finish well before the route is closed. The start is in Sanremo, a tourist town made famous by the influence of Russian aristocrats in past centuries.

We’ll race along the coast and turn inland at Imperia, summiting on Colle di Nava and continuing through the forested and agricultural regions to Mondovi and then the intensive flat farmland into Cuneo.

We will cross the official finish line, mount the winners podium, change and enter the VIP Zone to enjoy the VIP hospitality and cheer on the riders as they stream across the finish.

Transfer to our hotel in Torino.

  • Day 6 - Saturday 21 May

    Stage 14 Santena - Torino

    153km | 3,470m

Although only 153 kilometres, the altitude gain indicates that Stage 14 will be tough. The profile resembles a wood saw! We will need to start very early as there is a loop that passes by Torino twice...or we start later and stop when directed by the Carabinieri, to enjoy a light picnic and join the locals in cheering on the teams as they fly by; and then continue after the race is completed.

  • Day 7 - Sunday 22 May

Stage 15 Rivarolo Canavese - Cogne

    177km | 4,030m

Your last day of the Ride Every Kilometre Challenge - another giant day today, but a relatively easy ride into the Aosta Valley until 93 kilometres, then it is a 857 metre climb to Pila-les-Fleurs and a rewarding descent another big climb to 1,582 metres. One more enjoyable descent to 650 metres before the last massive climb to Cogne in the beautiful Gran Paradiso National Park at 1,611 metres.

Bravo for completing or attempting this massive mountain stage.

  • Day 8 - Monday 23 May

Epic! Bravo on completing one week of the toughest race in the most beautiful country. Over 1,000 kilometres and 14,000 metres of altitude gain. We hope you remembered to ‘Strava’ this week!?

We’ll help you pack up and transfer you to the airport for your trip home or onward journey. Or perhaps you will remain with us for the final week of the Giro d’Italia or join us on another Grand Tour in 2022?

Until next time, enjoy the roads and be safe.
