Feel the Giro Madness

Giro d’Italia might not be the biggest, nor the steepest tour on the pro peloton’s calendar, but it is definitely the one that the fans love the most. Giro always means three weeks of pure madness and chaos that somehow bring to life the most amazing event of the cycling season. It is only possible in Italy!

I had the opportunity to share my love for the country with amazing guests who decided to follow Giro, wherever the pros went. Some of us were riding every kilometre of every stage, starting with the Grande Partenza, and some decided to ride parts of the route, but regardless of their choices we were all connected by our love for cycling.

Every night, a group of fans and avid cyclists from around the world met at dinner to share stories, learning a lot about their favourite sport and the way it is experienced across the globe. The mix of cultures at the table, and on the incredible climbs and descents on our way makes it an unforgettable experience to be a part of the Giro caravan.

The 21 stages of the tour took us from Torino across Italy’s eastern coast, through the beautiful rolling hills of Abruzzo, on the Adriatic shore, to peak in week three in the Dolomites, in the country’s north, and then back to Rome to celebrate the finish line. From the rolling hills and lush vineyards of the countryside to the challenging mountain ascents and descents, every turn of the pedal brought new scenery, fresh challenges, and unforgettable memories.

We felt the love of the fans gathering alongside the closed roads that we got to ride each day, and were able to cut corners, and go where only the elite few were allowed to go after us. On the journey we went through incredible landscapes, experiencing local culture and tasting the world’s best food.

But our meals were more than just fueling for the rides ahead. They provided ample opportunities to get to know each other and make new friends, and sometimes new riding buddies. They were also a culinary experience on their own, satisfying even the most demanding palates.
