A day in Japan

Michiel's day in the life

I’d like to tell a story. A story about a day in Japan that had everything. Everything I would ever want of course. You might be different. But if you’re anything like me, I think you’d like a day like this as well.

I wake up early, refreshed and happy I have an extra hour, just for me. And what better way to start your day than with a visit to the hotel’s beautiful onsen? Onsen are natural geothermally heated springs and a lot of hotels in Hokkaido have one for their guests. The warm water feels very soft to the skin and immediately wakes me up and puts me in a good mood. I alternate between cooling off in the cool outside air and warming up in the soothing water.

Feeling content and with skin as soft as a baby, I get dressed and go for a walk. The sun is rising next to a beautiful volcano, Mount Yōtei. Some low-hanging mist makes the picture complete and I just take it all in.

After a hearty breakfast, I feel completely ready to tackle the day. My colleagues and I go pick up our guests and together we drive by bus to the start of the ride. We laugh, make jokes and think about our favourite moments of the tour. Today is the last day and the group’s spirits are high. We then hop out of the bus and start our beautiful bike ride. Beginning with a windy descent and ending with a leisurely ride along the lake, all while basking in the sunlight. We couldn’t have asked for a better last ride.

To recharge, we have a cosy lunch together in a typical Japanese, family-owned restaurant, followed by a relaxing evening at our gorgeous hotel. And of course, another amazing onsen experience. Hokkaido, you did not disappoint!
