France Grand Tour Finale: Alpes Maritimes & Nice Escape

We will meet you at Nice Côte d’Azur airport and transfer you to your hotel in the heart of Nice. Our team will help you to check in and unpack your bike or set up your rental bike. After a light lunch or snack, we’ll test ride the bikes on the Promenade des Anglais, admiring the buzz and beauty of the Baie des Anges. Back at our hotel, we can adjust the bikes, and then explore Nice old town before dinner and the tour briefing.

The Tour’s spectacular Individual Time Trial finish on Sunday will take the pros from Monaco on a climb up to La Turbie and the Col d’Eze before dropping down to Nice’s Promenade des Anglais and the finish line at Place Masséna.

While the Tour makes its way across the Alps, we will take on the best of this route a few days ahead of the race. Heading out on the coastal road to Monaco, we’ll pause for coffee before choosing our route. Our shorter option follows the ITT course exactly to La Turbie and the beautiful Col d’Eze, while those wanting a longer ride may wish to also take in the iconic Col de la Madone before La Turbie.

A glorious first day of riding should be rewarded with a cold drink as we finish on the Promenade des Anglais, before catching the action on screen as Stage 18 reaches its finish in Barcelonnette.

Today we head out early and west along the Baie des Anges to explore the famous towns of the Côte d’Azur, passing through Cap d’Antibes before reaching Cannes. We can then choose to either retrace the coastline back to Nice, or head northwards into the hills via the quaint old towns of Grasse – France’s centre of perfumery, and Vence – a hidden gem.

We’ll finish the day’s riding by midday, with our van ready and waiting to whisk you, should you wish, up into the mountains to the old village of Isola to watch the race pass through on its way to a summit finish at Isola 2000.

It’s time to test your legs in the mountains as we head out of Nice and up, up, up on the epic climbs of Col de Braus and Col de Turini – just a few hours ahead of the race. Expect verdant mountain valleys and switchbacks galore as we ride the Alpes Maritimes’ biggest climbs while being cheered on by Tour fans.

Not wanting to be caught by the pack, we’ll finish our ride with lunch in the medieval mountain village of Saint-Martin-Vésubie, ‘Nice’s Little Switzerland’, before watching Stage 20 of the race come through.

This is a big day out and we think we’ll be ready to rest our legs in the van back to Nice but, if you are so inclined (get it?), you could ride the 60km back via Lantosque. It’s *mostly* descent! Back at base we’ll celebrate and check out the fun as cycling’s biggest party hits town.

Our final day gives you the option of either a recovery ride, tracing the ITT course of the day along the spectator zone of the Promenade des Anglais, continuing on an out-and-back to Cannes (or far as you like).

Alternatively if you want a bigger ride, we’ll drive you to Cannes to take on the stunning westward loop along the Corniche d’Or and towards the Roman port town of Fréjus, before looping back to Cannes through the Estérel national park.

We'll be back in Nice in good time to refresh and head to the spectator zone to see the ITT grand finale, before the podium ceremony as the world’s biggest cycling race crowns its champions.

Enjoy Nice at your leisure and then sadly it’s time to pack our bags and say farewell to our home-from-home and newfound friends. We’ll help you with your bike box and get you comfortably back to Nice airport in time for your flight. But it’s not goodbye from us, just à bientôt – until next time!
