As the sun sets, we’ll clean up and head into the magnificent medieval city, the Cité de Carcassonne. Prepare for a truly special moment: a beautiful, atmospheric welcome dinner in the historic heart of the city, where we’ll raise a glass to the thrilling days ahead!
After a transfer, you will begin with a fast, relatively flat section of the Tour de France route before the road turns skyward towards the first challenge: the climb to the Col de Montségur amidst the historic Cathar region. The riding is set to give you a genuine feel for the race parcours.
The highlight of the day awaits in Foix. We will pedal the final kilometres of the stage, culminating in a D-Day finish – the unique opportunity to cross the official finish line just hours ahead of the professional peloton and mount the official Tour de France podium and attain a memento photo of the occasion. After the stage finish, we transfer to the famous historic spa town of Bagnères-de-Bigorre, and your hotel for the next three nights. The town offers offers dedicated spa and wellness facilities, ideal for recovery and preparation for the big mountain days ahead.
Today is all about soaking up the electric atmosphere of the Tour at Stage 5 in Lannemezan. Thanks to our Official Tour Operator status, we have access to the VIP area where the teams and riders gather. Spend the morning observing the controlled chaos: the final team meetings, the pros warming up. mechanics making last-minute adjustments before the teams presenting themselves for the signing-on ceremony …and the incredible, escalating crescendo of excitement, music and announcements just before the Grand Départ. This is your chance to witness the intimate preparations that precede the day’s battle.
Once the peloton departs, we will enjoy a light lunch before it’s your turn to ride and tackle a true Pyrenean classic: the Col d’Aspin, ascending via the same route the professional riders will use the following day. This challenging climb is a brilliant test for the legs and offers stunning views from the summit. After conquering the Aspin, enjoy a well-earned descent and spin directly back to your hotel ensuring maximum recovery time before tomorrow’s massive day.
Today is the day you ride a true monument of the Tour de France.
Setting off directly from the hotel, there is a brief warm-up loop before heading straight towards the base of the most famous climb in cycling: the Col du Tourmalet. This will be one of your hardest but most rewarding days in the saddle. Our challenge is the ascent via the eastern (Campan) side. The final four kilometres are where the action truly begins. We’ll establish our private, exclusive Grand Tours Project camp near the famous Hôtel La Voie Lactée, just below the summit.
You can ride up to the summit to soak in the fandom atmosphere at the very top and or witness the professional peloton’s battle from our strategically placed viewing area. Once the race has passed and the cheers subside, we will load up the bikes and return to our Bagnères-de-Bigorre hotel base in our support vans. This allows for maximum recovery time after a monumental day.
We recommend planning for a later flight departure from Toulouse. This allows you to enjoy a well-deserved sleep-in and a final, leisurely breakfast. Our team will be on hand to assist with the professional packing of your bike and the check-out process. From the hotel, the team will provide a comfortable, timely transfer directly to Toulouse-Blagnac Airport for your onward journey.
You’ll be leaving with the extraordinary memories of a genuine Pyrenean Epic Escape: conquering the Col d’Aspin and the legendary Col du Tourmalet, immersing yourself in the electric Tour de France atmosphere, and recovering in Bagnères-de-Bigorre’s ancient thermal waters.
